Please take a moment to read our privacy policy before using this web site ("the
Site") or submitting any personal information to MyLawBox.
This privacy policy describes the information gathering and dissemination practices
for the Site. By using the Site, you are consenting to the information collection
and use practices described in this policy as modified from time to time by MyLawBox.
Any changes to this privacy policy will be updated to the Site along with the updated
version. Any such revised policy will continue to apply to all information that
has previously been collected as well as information that has been stored or processed
on an ongoing basis by MyLawBox. Therefore, you are encouraged to check the version
of the privacy policy whenever you visit the Site for any updates or changes.
1. The Site
This Site enables users to search MyLawBox’s Special Collection, a large collection
of premium materials including judgments, legislation and articles from Malaysia
and other Commonwealth countries. Any user may use the Site and our search services,
but database materials generally are made available for a fee as part of a paid
annual subscription.
2. Information Collected On-Line and Its Usage
2.1 PERSONALLY IDENTIFYING INFORMATION
Personally identifying information (PII) is generally available only if you supply
it voluntarily through the Site or in connection with purchase of a subscription.
For instance, in setting up your Member Account, certain types of personal information
is collected such as your name, credit card number for Member Accounts, and e-mail
address. Corporate information collected might include any or all information pertaining
to the firm’s name, phone number, fax
number, company address, and number of potential users, related to the particular
authorised user for billing and reporting purposes for the corporate account holder.
Additional information that identifies you personally may be collected through any
comments, inquiries or suggestions submitted through the Site. We do not collect
any additional information from third parties except Judgments from the Courts of
Law, which may contain information on you if you have been involved in a particular
legal matter that has been sent to MyLawBox. As part of our normal business, and
for no other reason, we may publish such a judgment.
Collection of credit card information - where the payment is in real time - is done
using a third party vendor. The third party uses industry standard Secure Socket
Layer (SSL) encrypted servers. The SSL ensures that the information transferred
between you and the server is encrypted thereby rendering it unreadable to anyone
trying to intercept the information.
You are not required to provide any personal information to search the databases
on the Site. However, you are required to establish an account, which provides a
username and password in order to fully access certain materials in our databases.
You can change your password at any time but not your username. Any personal information
that you share with MyLawBox will be used for limited internal purposes, including
processing your transactions, customer service, marketing, development, content
processing, content classification and providing you with information regarding
our services.
With Member Accounts, we do not share your name, e-mail address, credit card numbers,
mailing address, purchasing history or any other PII that is collected from the
Site with any third parties, except as necessary to process your transactions.
We reserve the right to disclose your personal information if required to do so
by law, or in the good faith belief that such action is reasonably necessary to
comply with legal process, respond to claims, or to protect the rights, property
or safety of our company, our employees, customers, or the public. If such information
is disclosed we would, if allowed by law, inform you of the disclosure.
Your access to most services and content is password protected. It is recommend
that you do not divulge your password to anyone. MyLawBox will never ask you for
your password in an unsolicited phone call or in an unsolicited email. You should
not disclose your user name and password to others. In addition, if applicable,
you should remember to sign out of your MyLawBox account or service at the end of
each session. You may also wish to close your browser window when you have finished
your work. A final precaution would be to clear the browser cache after the session.
The cache stores files that you have accessed and may allow another to view your
legal research or personal information and correspondence if you share a computer
with someone else or are using a computer in a public place like a library or Internet
cafe.
Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100%
secure. Accordingly, despite our efforts to protect your personal information, MyLawBox
cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us, or
to or from our online products or services. All such transmission of information
is carried out at your own risk. However, once we receive your transmission, we
will make best efforts to ensure its security in our systems.
2.2 E-MAIL ADDRESSES
We collect e-mail addresses as part of providing services. We may send you e-mails
from time-to-time for customer service or our own marketing purposes. In no circumstances
is your e-mail address shared, sold or given to any third party without your consent.
2.3 AGGREGATE INFORMATION
We collect aggregate information about you and your use of our services, whether
you have an account or not. For instance, we may collect various forms of click
stream information such as IP address information, entry and exit points for the
Site (i.e., referring URLs or domains), search terms, site traffic, page views,
impressions, operating system and browser type. Such aggregate information generally
will not personally identify you or be correlated to you. If we do correlate any
aggregate information to you specifically, we will do so for our internal use only
and will not disclose such information to any other unauthorised third party. We
may collect, compile, store, publish, promote, report, sell, or otherwise disclose
or use any and all aggregate information, provided that, such information does not
personally identify you.
2.4 COOKIES
We may make use of "cookies" on the Site. Cookies are small text files that are
stored on a user's computer by the Web server through a user's browser. A cookie
itself is not designed or intended to read any information from your computer (other
than the contents of the cookie); rather, it is an identifier used by the Site that
originally placed it on your hard drive. The actual contents of the cookie information
can be retrieved by the same server to identify the computer and subsequently to
customise, monitor, or regulate the use of the Site based on information stored
in the cookie or host server. Therefore, cookies allow us to automate access and
data entry functions of the Site such as login information, correlate online ordering
information for purchases you may make while at the Site (if any), tailor the Site
to your preferences or interests, or customise promotions or marketing. In addition,
cookies allow us to track usage of the Site to determine those areas of the Site
that are useful or popular and those that are not, thereby enabling us to improve
and update the Site effectively.
You may adjust your web browser to either alert you of the use of cookies or refuse
to accept cookies entirely. Please be aware that if you elect not to accept cookies,
some parts of the Site may not function fully or permit access.
2.5 ADVERTISING SERVICES AND PROFILING
MyLawBox does not carry advertisements but in the event that we do in the future
we will not supply and will not permit advertising services on the Site to directly
collect any personally identifying information; however, in some cases, IP address
information may be referred to an advertising service servicing advertisements on
the Site.
You should also be aware that an advertising service may have the ability to correlate
otherwise anonymous cookie information that it collects from the Site (or co-branded
sites) to you if you have previously provided personally identifying information
to (a) the advertising service directly or (b) a site which shares such information
with the same advertising service. In any case you should refer to the advertising
service's privacy policy.
3. Links to Other Sites
A link from this Site to another site does not imply endorsement of that site. We
do not control the sites to which we link and assume no responsibility for their
content or privacy policies. Therefore, you should carefully review the privacy
policy and the terms and conditions that apply to any site you access from this
Site. This includes any company providing on-line payment via credit card or e-banking.
4. Updating and Access to Your Information
As a subscriber you can, at any time, update your account information, review your
usage, and receive your password by email if you have forgotten it. MyLawBox is
not responsible for any of the information so viewed, received or altered since
the control of your username and password and your email is solely your responsibility.
Users who allow others to use their account for accessing this service are in breach
of the Terms & Conditions of Use of this service and access may be denied. MyLawBox
monitors your usage in an effort to prevent such unauthorised use.
